I’ve always loved Spain. As a kid it was a regular holiday destination with my parents. Since then if you throw in city breaks, the islands, a bit of Ibiza clubbing and the fact I now have good friends who live there, all told I’ve been over 30 times. As such it was a great experience to shoot my first destination wedding in Spain last year.
I was made up when Elika & Rick invited me along to their Valencia wedding and it’s fair to say it didn’t disappoint. The actual location was a little way down the coast from Valencia on the outskirts of the pretty fishing town of Denia. For their celebrations they had hired out Hotel Buenavista – a boutique hotel set in beautiful grounds complete with swimming pool and views of sea and mountains.
After my flight rolled in the evening before, I headed straight to meet up with Elika & Rick and most of the guests for a bite to eat and a few drinks at a little restaurant on the edge of Denia marina and immediately knew we were in for a special time together. On the following day the wedding itself was scheduled more into the evening with an outdoor ceremony in the dappled sunlight of the courtyard once the heat of the day had subsided a little. Drinks, tapas and Balaeric tunes round the pool followed on before Elika and Rick got to showcase their considerable salsa skills during their first dance just after night fall. As the light faded, the party got firing and carried on through to the wee hours, culminating with pretty much all the guests ending up in the pool by around 3am. Seriously good times – what a way to throw a wedding!
