When I look out of the window at this dreary, wet weather it’s hard to believe that it was only 3 months ago that I was lucky enough to capture Meera and Will’s vibrant Indian / English mixed wedding. I made the journey up to near Ripon to be Newby Hall wedding photographer for the day and I must say, first and foremost the venue blew me away. I don’t believe they do a large volume of weddings there but this really is a hidden gem amongst North Yorkshire’s wedding venues – a stunning Georgian House bursting with character, original features and works of art, surrounded by quite possibly the most stunning gardens I’ve had the pleasure to wander through. A big shout but whether you’re looking for a wedding venue and a nice Sunday day out they really are worth going to see. And the day itself more lived up to the setting! Meera and Will did a superb job of blending cultures for their wedding.
Things kicked off with a Punjabi Hindu ceremony with a mandap set up outside on the lawn. I just love the vibrance of Hindu ceremonies from the playful arrival of the groom to the many traditional nuances that carry through as the rites are administered. A quick sojourn to the main house followed for the legal English marriage ceremony and then everyone was back outside basking in the glorious august sunshine (where did you go?!). All in all a vivid and energetic day that culminated in one heck of a party. Just how I like it!
Here’s what happened…
