2016 – a year that history will remember for a lot of negative reasons but for me personally, the polar opposite – I’m pleased to say I had an awesome year. My personal highlight had to be the arrival of our second (and final!) daughter Cleo, though I was also proud as punch to see my eldest girl Carla start school where she’s doing brilliantly (where did those 5 years go??).
On the work front JHP has gone from strength to strength. It was recently announced that I’ve made the shortlist of ten finalists in the 2017 UK Wedding Awards ‘Best Wedding Photographer’ category. Amazing! To help me start 2017 with what would be an unbelievable bang you can vote here:Β http://bit.ly/2iZPM4k. Last year saw me chosen as a finalist in Rangefinder’s 30 Rising Stars of Global Wedding Photography for 2016. I fell short of finding a place in the final list of 30 but to make the shortlist of 200 photographers worldwide is an accolade I’m pretty proud of. Elsewhere I continued with teaching at the awesome Rock Your Shot workshops. Could 2017 be the year I start teaching solo workshops? I don’t know… it’s an idea I’ve been toying with so give me a shout if this would be of interest to you.
Most importantly for me it has been another year of incredible weddings. I feel like I’m always saying it but I do put a lot of effort into attracting like-minded couples and hand-on-heart I can say that every couple from 2016 has been an absolute pleasure to work with. So thank you ALL for choosing me and having me along for the ride – it’s been epic! I’ve made a whole load of news friends as well as enjoying the chance to catchΒ up with a pleasing number of top dudes from previous weddings. And I really do mean friends – I’m off to see Bonobo with one of last year’s grooms next monthΒ so be warned, if you book me for your wedding you might not get rid of me easily π To say I supposedly work alone, this is the most sociable job I’ve ever had. My extended network of photographer friends help to keep me sane, are a great support network and are damn good fun to go partying with too! Which is a suitable juncture at which to give my annual shout out to superwife / megamum Helen for her unerring patience, love and support. I work hard and play hard and try to be a good dad too. Helen, with your own full-on job and two monkeys to look after a lot of the time you work tirelessly and are never, even briefly taken for granted. Legend!
So well done if you read to the end of this. You’ve earned a look through some nice photos (bonus point if you spot the Prince tribute photo I did the day after he passed)! Here’s to 2017! Have a good one everybody! *raises glass*
